Total Annihilation: The Core Contingency is the first expansion pack for the 1997 real-time strategy game Total Annihilation. It was developed by Cavedog Entertainment, and published by GT Interactive. The expansion was first released for Windows on April 30, 1998.
The Core Contingency continues the story of the base game, following a victory of the ARM. However, the CORE has an contingency in place, and activates a commander a remote planet in order to recover alien technology that could yet decide the conflict in favour of the CORE.
The expansion includes a number of bugfixes, twelve new missions for each side as well as a bonus mission set during the original conflict, and adds numerous new units and structures.
The Core Contingency received positive reviews from critics. It would be followed by another expansion, Total Annihilation: Battle Tactics, also released in 1998.
