Kettering High School

Opened in 1965 on the east side of Detroit, Michigan, Kettering High School was named after Charles F. Kettering, the famous American inventor, and head of research at General Motors. In 2010, DPS planned to consolidate Kettering with Southeastern High School. Officials changed their minds when they learned that rival gangs held influence at the schools.[On February 2012, it was announced that Kettering would close at the end of the school. Reasons for closure included low academic performance and a decreasing number of enrolled students. In addition there were increased maintenance costs related to Kettering's physical plant. In 2014 DPS announced that it would convert the campus into the Kettering Urban Agricultural Campus, an urban farm. Operations were scheduled to begin that year. Which of course never happened.
