Extracts from '...stretched across its axes', a 45-minute work for solo viola by Timothy McCormack, played by Marco Fusi. The piece was finished in 2024, but is the end product of a years-long collaboration between the composer and performer. There is an excellent interview by Tim Rutherford Johnson with Timothy McCormack and Marco Fusi about the process of composition on Tim Rutherford Johnson's Substack here: https://purlis.substack.com/p/purpose... "I was the performer touching the instrument, exploring and trying to find sounds, and Ti was there trying to capture these ideas, to structure them, to think how the little grains of sand that I was producing could be melted into glass. At the same time, the beauty of these sorts of collaborations, in which, I would say, boundaries or rather rules and competencies are clear, is that you can really see when the two ways of thinking click together." '...stretched across its axes' is released on Another Timbre in late October 2026. The cover artwork is 'Forms of Coexistence' by Sebastien Robinson, and the photo of Marco Fusi is by Veera Vehkasalo, with thanks www.anothertimbre.com
