She has known Sean Gathright since the day he was born and never spent a day apart from him. Now she has to ask a jury to let her baby brother live. This is the Julio Foolio Murder Trial. Sean Gathright is one of four men a Tampa jury convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of Charles Jones II, the Jacksonville rapper known as Julio Foolio, who was shot to death outside a hotel on his birthday in June 2024. The same jury is now deciding whether each of the four, Sean Gathright, Isaiah Chance, Rashad Murphy, and Davion Murphy, should be sentenced to death or to life in prison. The witness on the stand is Sean's older sister, two years older than him, a young mother of two, and she told the jury he is her best friend. Sean is the youngest of the four and the only one the state never argued was a gang member, so his defense is fighting to show the jury who he is. His mother and his grandmother have already testified. Now his sister walks the jury through their entire childhood and tells them what kind of uncle he became to her newborn son. Watch what the state does on cross. It does not fight the love. It does something quieter, and you should pay attention to where it leaves the jury. This is the part of a death penalty case the public rarely sees. The jury has already decided Sean is guilty. What they weigh now is everything else, the whole life behind the worst day of it, and whether that life is worth saving. That is what his sister came to court to give them. --- WATCH WITH JUSTICE 0:00 to 0:47 - She introduces herself as Sean's big sister and tells the jury she has never spent a day of her life without him. 0:47 to 2:37 - She builds the brother she knows: the goofy, sweet kid who teased her, loved to cook, and saw the world at her side. 2:37 to 8:23 - The defense walks the jury through a photo album of their childhood, Mississippi, Japan, Jamaica, London, a church food pantry, building a portrait of who Sean really is. 8:23 to 10:24 - The testimony turns to her newborn. Watch Sean become the uncle who kept the baby in his room and gave him a pretend first haircut. 10:24 to 11:24 - The peak. Asked how it has been without her brother, she tells the jury, plainly, that she just misses him. Then she asks whether he can still be an uncle to her kids. 11:24 to 12:44 - The state never argues with the love. Watch it do something else instead, turning the role models, the karate, and the travel into a list of every advantage Sean had.
