Four evenly spaced centre marks can look convincing and still be in the wrong place. If their coordinates were measured from the wrong edge, the pattern may fit itself perfectly while failing the drawing. Geometry helps us construct relationships such as perpendiculars, equal divisions and tangencies. A datum tells us where those relationships belong on the actual part. This lesson develops ideal geometric constructions, then applies them to an invented plate layout. A sharp-looking screen image is not evidence of machining accuracy; the drawing, permitted marking method and suitable inspection establish whether the physical work is acceptable. Explore this module, with moving diagrams, a worked example, a pause-and-try exercise and a clear explanation of the answer. Made for Machinist learners. Trace the flow, force, heat or decision path while the narration explains why it works. Pause whenever you need more time. 📘 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN • Identify and explain line, angle, circle, parallel, perpendicular and tangent relationships. • Describe circles, spheres, rectangles, triangles, trapezoids and ellipses without confusing their dimensions or conditions. • Construct basic figures, bisectors, perpendiculars, parallels, tangents and equal divisions using geometric relationships. • Apply geometric constructions to a datum-based machining layout and independently verify the ideal and physical results. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 A neat pattern can still locate the holes incorrectly 0:45 Separate a location from a length and direction 1:25 Recognize parallel and perpendicular lines 2:07 Measure angles from the intended ray 2:47 Keep circle terms distinct 3:30 Distinguish the sphere from its circular view 4:13 Classify plane figures by their defining conditions 4:59 Describe an ellipse using axes and foci 5:40 Construct a perpendicular bisector 6:24 Erect a perpendicular at a given point 7:09 Construct a parallel through an outside point 7:51 Bisect an angle without guessing its half value 8:32 Build a rectangle in a controlled sequence 9:19 Construct a triangle from three side lengths 10:04 Reject dimensions that cannot form the stated shape 10:48 Generate a circle with a fixed radius 11:32 Generate a trapezoid from complete information 12:14 Construct a tangent at a known circle point 12:57 Find tangents from an external point 13:40 Divide a segment into equal parts 14:24 Use the special geometry of a regular hexagon 15:10 Anchor coordinates to the drawing datums 15:55 Develop the four-hole layout record 16:47 Verify with a calculation that checks another relationship 17:34 Recognize when the construction method is insufficient 18:24 Independent practice: construct and explain 19:16 Practice answer: distinguish proof from measurement 20:04 Carry construction logic into machining decisions 💡 HOW TO STUDY 1. Watch the mechanism once before taking notes. 2. Replay the worked example and explain each step aloud. 3. Pause at the practice scene before revealing the answer. 4. Revisit the questions tomorrow without your notes. ➡️ NEXT MODULE: BC C4 📚 SOURCES AND SCOPE Source: mapped Machinist curriculum BC C3, PDF pages 36–36. Original narration, examples and diagrams. Source versions and supplementary references are recorded in the curriculum map and notes. Original explanations, diagrams and study dimensions. Audel PDF459 incorrectly generalizes tangency to touching straight lines; this lesson uses circle tangency and the perpendicular radius condition. Its PDF464 hexagon across-flats factor is incorrect; sqrt(3) is derived and independently checked. Construction precision is distinguished from physical layout and inspection. National B6.01 contribution is datum-based calculated layout; the broader tool/inspection scope is collective across mapped lessons. This series maps the stated curriculum and identifies supplementary teaching. Coverage does not establish exact equivalence to the current examination syllabus. 🔗 USEFUL LINKS Reference: Reference: Which diagram or calculation would you like explained again?
