After The Fall

AFTER THE FALL There are moments in life when everything we thought we could count on suddenly changes. A dream ends. A relationship is lost. Someone we love is no longer beside us. A career comes to an unexpected close. Our health changes. Or sometimes we simply wake up one day and realize that the life we imagined for ourselves somehow became a very different life. “After the Fall” is a song about what happens next. It's about those times when we're standing in the wreckage of what used to be, wondering where we go from here. At first, all we may be able to see is what we've lost. But with time, something else can begin to appear—a strength we didn't know we had, a different road forward, and perhaps even a new sense of purpose. Sometimes finding meaning doesn't mean rebuilding the life we had before. Sometimes it means discovering who we've become because of everything we've been through. One of my favorite lines in the song says: “Maybe meaning isn't waiting At the end of some perfect road Maybe it's the hands we reach for Maybe it's the love we show.” I wrote “After the Fall” for anyone who has ever been knocked down by life and wondered whether they still had another chapter left to write. I believe we do. Our scars become part of our story. Our losses can change the way we see the world. And sometimes the road we never planned to travel leads us somewhere we never expected to find. If you've ever had to begin again, this song is for you. Our story doesn't have to end with the fall. Sometimes that's where a new one begins.
