[34:40] Trailer Score Better known under the title 'Devil was an Angel, this Spaghetti western, directed by Sergio Bergonzelli (1924-2002) and co-written with Ambrogio Molteni, stars Gerardo Rossi (in his first film role), Attilio Severini (1929-2010), American actor and singer Bob Henry (1936-2016), Taiwanese character actor and film producer George Wang (1918-2015), who appeared in a multitude of Italian films during the 1960's and 1970's, Luciano Catenacci (1933-1990), American actress and singer Lucretia Love (1941-2019), who spent the majority of her career in Italy, and Marisa Solinas (1939-2019), an Italian actress and pop singer. Though overloaded with the common clichés of the genre, the film benefits greatly from a creative cast, an engaging storyline and direction, and numerous whimsical set-pieces and landscape shots, most of which depict war-destroyed ruins that give the story a poetic seriousness. The story follows disgraced ex-army captain Pat Scotty (Bob Henry), who is hired to infiltrate and dismantle a gang of Mexican bandits terrorizing gold convoys in the Mojave region, led by the ruthless El Condor (George Wang). Pat soon earns their trust, enabling him to trap them all, but develops a genuine respect for their leader. Once inside their compound, he notices a captive named Jane (Lucretia Love), taken during one of the raids. Jane's brother, Lt. Dick Carson (Gerardo Rossi), is actually accompanying Pat in his efforts to take down the bandits who are held up in a monastery-turned-fort. With help from the feisty Maya (Marisa Solinas), Pat is able to capture the gang and call in the Cavalry for help. But El Condor manages to escape, so Pat sets out for an all-important duel that leaves only one standing... Gian Piero Reverberi's score is pretty slick, mixing up-tempo grooves, erotic ambience, and a rather catchy theme performed by Italian singer, songwriter and actor Mino Reitano (1944-2009). A composer, arranger, and conductor, Reverberi began his career in the late 1950's working in a wide range of media, including television where, with Robert Mellin (1902-1994), he composed the memorable music to the children's series 'The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (1964). He also worked with his brother Gian Franco (1934-2024) on a number of notable scores, including 'Django, Prepare a Coffin (1966). In 1979, he founded the Rondò Veneziano chamber orchestra, which he has led ever since, having been the main composer, arranger, and conductor of the group. As a producer, Reverberi has worked for several progressive rock bands, and has also worked on numerous albums for notable singer-songwriters such as Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Umberto Balsamo, and Fabrizio De André (1940-1999). His most notable film score has to be for the erotic-drama 'Venus in Furs (1969), directed by Massimo Dallamano (1917-1976), best known for his work on Sergio Leone's 'Dollars Trilogy, and for directing several giallo and crime films during the 1970's.
