In March 1943, Allied commanders suddenly lost access to German Naval Enigma messages just as convoys HX 229 and SC 122 entered the deadly Mid-Atlantic Air Gap. More than forty U-boats converged on the vulnerable merchant ships, launching one of the largest and most destructive wolfpack attacks of World War II. This documentary explores how exhausted Allied escorts fought back without decrypted intelligence, using Huff-Duff direction finding, centimetric radar, depth charges, and Very Long Range B-24 Liberators to hunt the hunters and keep Britain’s Atlantic lifeline alive.
