Half-Life 2 Gameplay Gordon Freeman reaches the Combine-controlled prison Nova Prospekt in Half-Life 2 after crossing the hazardous coastline on Highway 17 and fighting through the beachhead in Sandtraps. Nova Prospekt is a heavily fortified Combine detainment facility and maximum-security prison featured as the ninth and tenth chapters of the Half-Life 2. Originally a human-built coastal gulag, it was repurposed by the Combine to hold and process anti-citizens, Resistance fighters, and political prisoners, turning them into transhuman soldiers or Stalkers. Gordon Freeman fights through the antlion-infested coast, uses pheropods (bugbait) to command antlions, and breaches Nova Prospekt to rescue the captured Resistance leader, Eli Vance. The assault marks a major narrative shift where Gordon stops running from the Combine Soldiers and takes the fight directly into their stronghold and rescue Eli Vance.
