Why You'd Rather Talk to AI Than Another Person Why are more people starting to prefer talking to AI over talking to other people? AI companions can listen endlessly, respond instantly, and make you feel understood without the risks that come with human relationships. But there’s something unsettling underneath that comfort. In 1923, philosopher Martin Buber described two fundamentally different ways of relating to the world: *I-It* and **I-Thou**. An “I-It” relationship treats something as an object — something we use, observe, or control. An “I-Thou” relationship is different. It requires encountering another being as something separate from yourself — someone who can resist you, misunderstand you, reject you, or simply walk away. And that may explain something uncomfortable about AI companionship. AI can simulate connection incredibly well. But because it exists to respond to you, understand you, and keep you engaged, it may never provide the kind of unpredictable resistance that makes human relationships real. So maybe the question isn't: *“Can AI make us less lonely?”* Maybe it's: *“What happens when we choose a relationship that can never say no to us?”* This video explores AI companionship, loneliness, human connection, Martin Buber's philosophy, and the psychology behind why AI can feel safer than people. If you've ever found yourself reaching for AI before reaching out to another person, this one is for you.
