BLACK MAGIC IN TASAWWUF, IS IT PERMISSIBLE? - Shaykh Dr Abudlhakeem Adebayo Abdurrahman

Shaykh Ibrahim Inyass (RA) emphasized an important principle concerning those who follow the path of Tijaniyyah. He explained that everyone on the path is a murid—a disciple—of Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (RA). According to him, the highest quality a murid can possess is to be truthful, trustworthy, and sincere in following the path. However, true and sincere following cannot be separated from obedience to Islam. A genuine follower must observe the Dos and Don'ts of Islam and remain within the guidance of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Shaykh Ibrahim Inyass further explained that a follower should have two guardians. The first and outward guardian is the Qur'an and Sunnah (Kitaab and Sunnah), while the inward spiritual guardian is Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (RA), whose path the murid has chosen to follow. The essence of this advice is that spiritual affiliation should never be separated from obedience to the fundamental teachings of Islam. The path of a murid must therefore be guided by both knowledge and righteous conduct. In connection with this, Dr. Abdulhakeem made reference to individuals who, according to his discussion, sought different forms of occult or magical practices in pursuit of fame, influence, or the ability to provide solutions to various problems brought to them by people from near and far. The discussion therefore raises an important question about the boundaries of spiritual leadership: Should the pursuit of spiritual authority, fame, or the ability to solve people's problems ever take precedence over the Qur'an, Sunnah, and the principles of Islam? The Wasiyyah attributed to Shaykh Ibrahim Inyass serves as a reminder that being a murid is not simply a title or affiliation.
