What does the Bible say about how Christians should live while waiting for Jesus to return? Matthew 24, the Olivet Discourse, is one of the most debated and misunderstood passages in all of Scripture. In it, Jesus gives His disciples a clear and honest picture of what life between His first and second coming would look like, and it is more relevant to everyday Christian life than many people realize. This message walks through the major interpretations of Matthew 24, including the futurist pre-tribulation view and the preterist view, before offering a reading that takes seriously both the historical fulfillment in AD 70 and the still-future return of Christ. Rather than getting lost in prophetic debate, the focus lands on what Jesus actually wanted His followers to do with this information. Four key truths emerge for Christians living in the in-between time. The words of Christ are completely trustworthy. History proves it. When Roman armies surrounded Jerusalem, Jewish Christians who believed Jesus fled to safety while over a million others perished. That same Jesus is calling people to trust Him today with their finances, their families, and their fears. His heart is also for His people. Before describing any of the difficulty ahead, His first concern was that His followers would not be alarmed or led astray. He speaks hard truths not to frighten but to prepare, because love tells the truth. Endurance is the defining call of the Christian life. Jesus does not promise that things will get easier. He describes persecution, false teachers, and growing lawlessness, and in the middle of it all He calls His people to hold on. The church exists in part for this reason, so that believers can come alongside one another and help each other keep going. Finally, the gospel will advance no matter what. War, persecution, cultural hostility, and false teaching cannot stop the spread of the good news about Jesus. He declared it Himself, and that guarantee is a foundation for bold, faithful living. Whether you are studying end times prophecy, looking for encouragement in a difficult season, or trying to understand what faithful Christian living looks like in a broken world, this message offers grounded, biblical answers rooted in the words of Jesus Himself.
