What if the secret to getting young people interested in politics was… Batman? 🦇 In episode 145 of Raq The Boat, I sit down with Anwita — a 17-year-old high school senior from Florida who moved from Australia at age 7 and has been finding her voice ever since. She created a blog called 'Diplomessy' on Substack, TikTok, and Instagram that breaks down complex political and civic issues by comparing them to things young people actually know — like superhero movies. In just 30 days, it reached 90,000 impressions. Anwita isn't just blogging. She's an executive board member of Girl Up South region, has worked directly with her local school board to improve civic education curriculum, hosted a podcast episode featuring education advocate Marlee Dias, and is part of the Lead Her Voice cohort. She's doing all of this while navigating senior year — and she makes it look like it actually makes sense. This conversation goes deep on what it means to be a young person who refuses to be a puppet for anyone else's agenda, why self-care and passion are the same thing for Gen Z, and how supportive teachers and parents can completely change the trajectory of a young person's life. In this episode we cover: 🦇 How Anwita uses Batman and pop culture to make civic education accessible for young people 📱 How her blog Diplomacy reached 90,000 impressions in just 30 days across multiple platforms 🌍 What moving from Australia to the US at age 7 taught her about using her voice authentically 🏛️ Her work with the local school board to improve how civics is taught in schools 💛 What Girl Up is and how young leaders get involved with major global organizations ⚖️ Why Gen Z's approach to work and self-care isn't lazy — it's actually smarter 🤖 Why AI might actually motivate arts and creative minds to pursue their passions harder 👩‍🏫 How the right teachers can completely change what's possible for a young person 🌱 Why preserving culture and traditions matters more to Gen Z than people realize Anwita's advice? Follow your passion, stay adaptable, and never let anyone make you a puppet for their agenda. 🎙️ Raq The Boat is hosted by Raquel Borras — youth advocate, documentary filmmaker, and founder of Raqvision LLC. This show amplifies the voices of young people ages 9–17 who are out here doing big things. 🔔 Subscribe so you never miss an episode 👍 Like this video if it inspired you #RaqTheBoat #CivicEducation #DiplomacyBlog #GirlUp #AnwitaIyengar #YoungActivist #GenZLeadership #InternationalRelations #YouthAdvocacy #CivicEngagement #TeenBlogger #SubstackCreator #LeadHerVoice #KidPodcast #youthleadership #genz
