ISI Yogyakarta Jurusan Karawitan

This video features a live performance excerpt from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as part of the project titled "Tua Pek Kong in Java: Strolling through Yogyakarta's Countryside, Singing Taiwanese Folk Tales." This initiative was officially sponsored by the Ministry of Culture in 2019 (the 108th year of the Republic of China calendar). Our cross-cultural fusion music aims to highlight well-known Taiwanese country folk songs. The featured piece, "The Northwest Downpour" (Sai-Pak-Hoo), not only captures fleeting moments of rural and pastoral life through its lyrics, but also perfectly aligns with the core spirit of the project—exploring the profound interactions between folk beliefs and the Earth Deities (known as Semar , Tu Di Gong, or Bak Gong) across both Javanese and Taiwanese cultures.
