Project Spotlight: The Baner Residence 850sqft A Maharashtrian home, rooted in culture and designed for modern living This home in Baner, Pune, celebrates Maharashtrian heritage without feeling like a museum. Traditional craft, warm timber and earthy colours shape every room, while the layout and comfort remain entirely contemporary. The result is a house that feels like coming home to something familiar. The Entrance The story begins at the door. A hand-illustrated Nandi wallpaper greets guests in the foyer, a nod to the sacred bull that guards Shiva temples across Maharashtra. It sets a calm, welcoming tone and tells visitors what kind of home they are stepping into before they take a single step further. Saagvan Wood Pillars The heart of the design is a set of pillars in saagvan (teak), reminiscent of the carved columns of a traditional Maharashtrian wada. Chosen for its rich grain, strength and longevity, the teak brings warmth and a sense of permanence. The pillars define the living and dining areas, creating separation without closing off the space. Furniture with Traditional Forms The furniture draws on classic Maharashtrian silhouettes: turned legs, carved detailing, arched profiles and the proportions of old wooden furniture such as the paat, jhoola and wada-style seating. Each piece is made in solid wood with a hand-finished polish, so it looks timeless while staying comfortable for daily use. Details That Complete the Story Brass lamps and diyas, warm lighting, textured walls, traditional motifs and handcrafted accessories tie the rooms together. Every element was chosen to reflect Maharashtra's culture while keeping the home light, functional and personal. The Result The Baner Residence shows that tradition and modern living belong together. It is warm, rooted and quietly beautiful, a home that honours its heritage and is built for the family living in it.
