In April 1945, Hitler gave two generals impossible assignments. Walther Wenck was ordered to break through to Berlin with a force made up of schoolboys and exhausted reserves. Hasso von Manteuffel was tasked with holding the Eastern Front, defending the Oder River north of the Seelow Heights against overwhelming Soviet forces. Both knew success was unlikely. But the choices they made in those final days would define their legacies forever.
