Duane Doyle’s animation 'Endangered Species' (2026), created in collaboration with animator Helena Papageorgiou, brings together his three 'Endangered Species' paintings in a single, seamless work. Drawing on Doyle’s First Nations knowledge and deep connection to Country, the animation traces the natural rhythm of river flooding and the vital role that healthy waterways play in sustaining plants, animals and people. Central to the series is the cyclical pulse of flooding, which brings cleansing, renewal and regrowth to the land. Doyle’s focus on the endemic seagrasses of Brisbane’s bay areas — essential habitats for the dugong — reflects his ongoing concern for the interconnected well-being of all life.
