Beats, Bass, and MOOD | Sounds and Textures with Chase Bliss Audio MOOD mkII and 1981 Inventions LVL

One of the really special things about a pedal like Mood mkII is its ability to steer your creativity in unique directions. It’s hard to describe, but it almost always has me reimagining the pathways I take in creating and composition. Today it shined a spotlight on bass, nudging it into the spotlight. After I picked a drum groove, I tracked a couple textural layers with MOOD, adding a bit of sheen with Spaceman Aurora and Strymon Volante to bounce it around. This set the table for the main event, a moving bass line that brought structure and form to an otherwise nebulous track. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with nebulous, ethereal textures…but today I wanted to play in a different sandbox. Oh, and the bass tone? Well, it’s well-documented how much I love this ’75 Musicmaster…but the secret sauce is the new 1981 Inventions LVL with gain near-max, and a little delay and reverb from Strymon Brig and Flint.
