Grindelwald Trekking: A Rest Day on the Eiger Ultra Trail - Hiking to Bachalpsee Lake Taking a rest day from my multi-day hike, I spent the day exploring Bachalpsee and the First Cliff Walk. Hiking a longer, scenic trail from First, I arrived at the iconic alpine lake, Bachalpsee. The crystal-clear water reflected the surrounding peaks, while colorful wildflowers bloomed along the shore. However, the lake was surprisingly crowded, as it’s easily accessible from the First gondola station. Continuing higher along the trail, I enjoyed beautiful views overlooking the lake. Then, I wandered along the quieter side of the shore, where the mountains were reflected in the water and more wildflowers lined the lakeshore. I dipped my feet into the cold alpine water and relaxed by the lake for a long while, simply soaking in the beauty. I also walked along the First Cliff Walk twice—right after sunrise, when I had it almost entirely to myself, and again in the afternoon, when it was filled with visitors.
