Three days without food. His feet cut open. Something watching him from the dark — and instead of running, he lifted a bone to his lips and played.
That is not how we picture early humans. But the evidence says something else entirely.
In this video we go through what ancient humans actually did for pleasure: the 40,000-year-old bone flutes that are still playable today, the nightly dances that held whole camps together, the games with real rules and real losers, the stories told in the dark, the tiny child handprints on cave walls, Neanderthal jewellery and flowers laid on graves, the first dogs, and the anthropologist who called hunter-gatherers the original affluent society — because they worked far less than we do.
They had almost nothing. They still made music.
If you have ever wondered what our ancestors did once the work was finished, this one is for you.
