A prospective student lands on your program page.
Within a few seconds, can they answer:
What is this program?
Is it for someone like me?
How is it delivered?
Where could it take me?
What will it cost?
And what should I do next?
Many university program pages use their most valuable space to talk about the institution before helping prospective students understand the decision they’re trying to make.
In this video, I break down a different approach: orientation before persuasion.
We’ll look at:
• What the first screen of a program page actually needs to accomplish
• The six questions every program page should help answer
• How to communicate program fit without generic marketing language
• Why location, format, schedule, cost, and career outcomes are decision information — not supporting details
• Why you should not put everything above the fold
• How different levels of student intent may require different next steps
• Why ad-to-page congruence matters
• A simple 10-second comprehension test for program pages
• How to diagnose whether you have an orientation, value proposition, or CTA problem
• The O → P → R → M framework: Orient → Prove → Reduce Uncertainty → Move
The first screen does not need to convince someone to enroll.
It has a simpler job:
Help the right prospective student think, “I’m in the right place. This might be for me. I want to know more.”
From there, the rest of the page can earn the next yes.
