Alison Thornton and Josie Totah have both starred in some iconic teen shows. The former played a pivotal supporting role in the criminally underrated Dare Me, which examined a brutal high school cheerleading team, while the latter starred in the equally excellent Saved by the Bell reboot, as well as Apple TV’s The Buccaneers.
The two return to high school once again for Mike Flanagan’s Carrie reboot, taking on iconic mean girls Chris Hargensen and Tina Blake. Though undeniably devilish, the duo both infuse the bullies with a surprising amount of depth and humanity. Chris is struggling with a complicated home life, attempting to navigate her parents’ divorce and her father’s newfound financial trouble. Tina desperately wants Chris’ approval, though she’s always stuck in her shadow, clawing for any scrap of popularity.
Collider got the chance to speak to Thornton and Totah about their work in the highly anticipated Stephen King adaptation. During the conversation, Thornton breaks down Chris’ complicated relationship with her mother and the most fun she had playing the villain, while Totah talks about Tina’s surprisingly tender moment with Carrie and her finale scene with Kate Siegel.
