Dars No. 18 | Qaida Tamheed-ul-Quran
Tanween (Double Harakat) and the Rules of Noon Sakin and Tanween
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
In Dars No. 18 of Qaida Tamheed-ul-Quran, we study Tanween (Double Harakat), its pronunciation, and the fundamental rules of Noon Sakin and Tanween according to the principles of Tajweed.
📖 Topics Covered in This Lesson
1. Tanween (Double Harakat)
In this lesson, we learn the three types of Tanween:
Two Zabar (ً) — Fatḥatayn
Two Zer (ٍ) — Kasratayn
Two Pesh (ٌ) — Dammatayn
We also practise their correct pronunciation with the Arabic letters:
Hamzah with Fatḥatayn: أَنْ
Baa with Kasratayn: بٍ
Taa with Dammatayn: تٌ
The lesson includes pronunciation practice from the relevant Qaida exercises and other practice boards.
2. Introduction to the Rules of Noon Sakin and Tanween
We also discuss the different forms of Noon:
Noon Mutaharrik: Noon with a vowel.
Noon Mushaddad: Noon with a Shaddah, which requires Ghunnah.
Noon Sakin: Noon without a vowel.
Tanween: Double Harakat, which produces a Noon Sakin sound.
3. Four Rules of Noon Sakin and Tanween
There are four fundamental rules of Noon Sakin and Tanween:
1. Izhar Halqi (إظهار حلقي)
When any of the six throat letters — ء، ه، ع، ح، غ، خ — occurs after Noon Sakin or Tanween, Izhar Halqi applies. The Noon sound is pronounced clearly.
2. Idgham (إدغام)
When any of the six letters ي، ر، م، ل، و، ن (يَرْمَلُونَ) occurs after Noon Sakin or Tanween, Idgham applies, subject to its conditions.
3. Iqlab (إقلاب)
When the letter Baa (ب) occurs after Noon Sakin or Tanween, Iqlab applies. The Noon sound changes into a concealed Meem sound accompanied by Ghunnah.
4. Ikhfa Haqiqi (إخفاء حقيقي)
When any of the fifteen Ikhfa letters occurs after Noon Sakin or Tanween, Ikhfa Haqiqi applies. The Noon sound is concealed with Ghunnah.
