Are Animals Alien

The provided sources explore various fascinating aspects of *marine biology and evolutionary science**, dispelling popular misconceptions and examining how organisms adapt to extreme environments. While internet culture often mocks **blobfish* as cartoonish water balloons, marine experts clarify that their bulbous, unflattering appearance is simply the result of being pulled away from the crushing pressures of their native *deep-sea habitat**. Similarly, speculative theories suggesting that **octopuses* arrived on Earth via meteors are debunked by genetic evidence, which confirms that their remarkable intelligence and anatomy are the product of standard *terrestrial evolution* and natural selection rather than extraterrestrial origins. Expanding on the theme of survival in harsh environments, scientific research reveals that certain hardy *bacteria* can endure years in the airless vacuum of outer space by clustering together, shielding the innermost microbes beneath the remains of their deceased companions. This astonishing resilience provides practical support for the concept of **panspermia**, demonstrating how microscopic life might potentially travel between planets. Ultimately, these findings connect to the broader biological principle of **universal common descent**, which posits that all living things on Earth share a single ancestral origin, backed by compelling genetic and biochemical evidence.
