Two twins start from the same place. One becomes an HVAC tech and eventually owns the company. The other becomes an engineer and out-earns him for twenty years. Only one retires at 49.
This is a fictional story built on calculated numbers. Every balance in the video was run month by month, not guessed.
ASSUMPTIONS
• Investments grow 7% a year (a smooth average; real markets are not smooth). Inflation 3% a year.
• Both brothers start with a total savings rate of 12.1% of pay, including employer match (Vanguard, How America Saves 2025). Evan's rate falls over time, as shown in the video.
• Social Security: national average of about $2,071 a month (SSA). Jake's is lower because he stops paying in at 49.
• Health insurance is priced as an unsubsidized marketplace plan for two people.
• The business numbers are illustrative assumptions, not data from a real company: profit of $110,000 in 2012 growing 4% a year, a purchase price of 2.5 times profit, a sale at 2.58 times profit (BizBuySell median for HVAC businesses sold 2021–2025), 6% selling fees and 20% tax on the sale.
• Salaries and prices are typical for the profession and region, not exact.
NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. This video is entertainment and education. It shows what common choices can cost over time under stated assumptions. It is not a recommendation to buy a business, take on debt, or invest in anything. Your results will differ. Talk to a licensed professional before making financial decisions.
