For almost two decades, since the 90's and well into the 00's there existed a bit of schism in Oslo's underground scene, as with many other places where the end of the 80's saw the burgeoning punk and hardcore scenes that came to define the grandeur of early 80's slowly became more mainstream and the scene adjusted itself by getting more and more extreme and eventually devolving into 90's stadium crust and the straight edge scene that once was angry turned sad and started screaming and gave us nu-metal, the scenes split and there was an uneasy peace in and around Oslo between the punks and activists loyal to Blitz and the hardcore scene and their myriad of venues where gigs were segregated for a long ass time and there were little interaction between the two. Most people agree that the 90's were a terrible time for punk, as we turned into the early 10's came URBANOIA out of nowhere. Originally from Stavanger, where they released their demo, DJ Pikk and the Krokedal brothers soon relocated to Oslo, recruiting Henrik to take over the bass duties, and industrious as only the Krokedal brothers can be, they se out to set things straight in the capital and started setting up gigs - good gigs at that - and ushered in a new era of what became the mid 10's Oslo hardcore scene boom which again united the punk and hardcore scenes and made Oslo the strongest it had been in 30 years. a killer demo, two insanely strong EPs and the magnum opus that is Nådeløs Vold - these are all modern classics that stands on the shoulders of the giants of the seminal norwegian hardcore bands in Betong Hysteria, Svart Framtid and Stengte Dører, while still standing firmly on their own, and will go down in history as some of the best punk to ever come out of norway and scandinavia, and in my humble opinion, the world. I still remember hearing Svart Sement the first time and it was like a punch in the face, the feeling of urgency and purpose i was left with inspired me to step up my game after having been in the scene for a decade at the time and slowly grown jaded and burnt out from just existing within a scene there finally was a purpose - we're making good punk again.
