SEA OTTERS ODI and KASI

OTT ADVENTURERS presents SEA OTTERS ODI and KASI in the Oceanário de Lisboa. The two sea otters Odi and Kasi were named after the area where they were found. Odi was born in Alaska on March 2017 and was rescued with only three weeks, near the Odiak lagoon. Kadi was born in Alaska on July 2017 and was found, with two months, in an area called Kasilof. Both sea otters were found alone and debilitated so they were rescued by the Alaska SeaLife Center. As they were less than one year old, they did not learn basic survival behaviours, such as foraging or grooming their fur, which prevented their relase into the natural habitat. The support of the Oceanário de Lisboa was crucial to ensure the survival of Odi and Kasi after their rescue. In 2018 completely rehabilitated, they travelled to Oceanário de Lisboa. The otters were hunted for their fur, called “soft gold”, to the point of near extinction. Nowadays, sea otters are protected by law.
