This walking tour begins at the end of the metro line, where the journey continues on one of Kyiv’s most iconic forms of public transport — the marshrutka. These small route buses have been part of everyday life in Kyiv for decades, connecting metro stations with residential neighborhoods, suburbs and places the metro simply doesn’t reach. My destination is a huge shopping mall located on the outskirts of Kyiv. There is no metro station nearby, so many visitors arrive by bus, car or marshrutka. Inside, the mall feels almost like a small city. Long shopping galleries, restaurants, stores and entertainment areas stretch through the enormous complex. One of its most impressive features is a large indoor pool with fountains, creating an unexpected atmosphere in the middle of a shopping center. After exploring the mall, I take another marshrutka back toward the metro and continue the walk through residential neighborhoods. Here you can see another side of everyday Kyiv — apartment buildings, courtyards, local streets, public transport and people simply going about their daily lives. No tourist route. No commentary.
