Los Cantantes de Manila Darwin Vargas, Conductor Live performance at the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing 2025 Tolosa, Spain HOL DOYON - LAUDATE original work by Nilo Alcala The text are excerpts from the Latin and the T'boli adaptation of Psalm 150. The T’boli tribe are from South Cotabato, Southern Philippines. D’wata in the T’boli language means Creator. The piece alludes to vocal and instrumental sounds of the T’boli tribe in praise of the Creator. Vocal techniques include mimicking the kumbing/kubing/jaw harp/Jew’s harp, occasional raw vocal production, as well as vocal breaks (as in yodel) and pseudo overtone singing. Rhythms and textures pay homage to heglung (lute) and klintang (gong) music. Let us praise our Creator Let us praise by singing Let us praise by chanting Let us praise by playing the lute Let us praise by playing the flute Let us praise by playing the jaw harp Let us praise by beating the gongs Let us praise with dancing. Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!
