Bermondsey By-election Special

Forty years on, the Bermondsey byelection of 24 February 1983 has a very different significance than it had at the time. Here is ITN's special programme which began at midnight on Thursday going into Friday, with the result already fairly clear. Alastair Burnet is the presenter, with Peter Sissons and ITN political editor Glyn Mathias at the count. The political panel in the studio consists of Shadow Education Secretary Neil Kinnock, Conservative Party Chairman Cecil Parkinson, and Liberal spokesman on social services Clement Freud. In the middle is a report from David Walter about whether candidates should have to find more nominees and put up a higher deposit.
