I have been told that I can be quite stubborn. Despite part one being based on pieces of evidence being completely WRONG, I'm back to prove once and for all that Simon's sacrifice meant NOTHING to anyone..... but himself. So, part 2 of my Iron Lung Theory! Let's GO!
I missed this during all of my script writing, but at 1:51:26, Simon says, "What do you know? You're just a piece of shit that doesn't even know it's dead." Looking at this line through the lens of my theory, then this would mean Simon is unknowingly talking to himself.
Note for math at 4:30 - Given that the ship was moving around Simon rather than remaining stagnant while Simon fell, all of this math is technically wrong. However, the ship is substantially heavier than Simon's skull, so if anything, the figures I calculated would be far more favorable for Simon's survival. That said, it was still fun to math all this out, and if anyone has any constructive feedback on how I could more accurately measure these impact forces, I would love to hear them!
I promised formulas in the description, and most of them are already in the video. But, here are the raw notes I took regarding the gauge math (which, as pointed out in the video, is just plain WRONG).
-The near instant shift fromn 12,600 lbs to 8,400 is a PSI shift of roughly 16 PSI, or roughly 37 feet (11.3 meters) near instantly.
-pressure gauge dropped in 3 frames at 60fps, or exactly 0.05 second. Acceleration is calculated as:
a = 2d/t² = 2 x 11.3 / 0.05² = 22.6 / 0.0025 = ~9,040 m/s² or ~922 Gs.
-This is completelely unrealistic. Fighter pilots tend to blackout around 9 Gs, a fatal car crash is typically 100 Gs. 922 Gs of impact is in ARTILLERY SHELL OR CANNONBALL territory.
This means that the inertial force - the force Simon's head and body would experience before even colliding with the wall is:
F = 5kg x 9040 m/s² = ~45,200 Newtons or ~10,160 lbs of force.
Inertia ALONE would be enough to kill, but then when we look at the striking force:
v = a x t = 9040 x 0.05 = 452 m/s.
The speed of sound is 353 m/s. That means that Simon would have to be traveling FASTER THAN A BULLET. So, this is just not plausible.
