Craftsman/Dunlap nine inch wood lathe restoration. This lathe was manufactured by Atlas Press Company in the 1930s. There was no model number on the lathe but it is either a model 101.06241 or a model 101.06242. It also came with a compound tool rest and a 4 jaw chuck so you can do light metal work with it. It also had an optional jackshaft of unknown origin to provide more speed options. It was in surprisingly good shape with only minor surface rust. I only replaced the spindle bearings in the headstock since the rest of it just needed a good cleaning, adjustment, and fresh paint. The headstock was assembled improperly and I think I put it back together the right way. The thrust bearing had some wear but the original part is of course not available and I couldn't find a suitable replacement. The lathe uses MT1 (morse taper 1) centers in both the headstock and the tailstock. The spindle is threaded 3/4" x 16 TPI for faceplates and chucks. The rear of the spindle is the same thread pitch but left-hand threads. The compound rest assembly appears to be an Atlas 5610. The Jackshaft assembly appears to be an Atlas 5615. The 4 jaw chuck appears to be an M6-844B from Atlas. Since I was unsure how I was going to rig everything up to work I took a chance and bought adjustable link drive belts. I was surprised at ho well they worked and how easy they were to adjust.
