We Took Over an Abandoned Ranger Station —The Forest Went Silent Before Sunset

DESCRIPTION: Dara Karim reaches Elk Ridge Ranger Station with Tomás, Shonda, Wes, and Leigh after to days on Highway 42. The station gives them walls, a woodstove, a hand pump well, and temporary shelter, but before sunset the birds and every other sound in the forest abruptly stop. Tracks on the northeast ridge, trange infected behavior, and evidence surrounding the watershed turn the ranger station into a place they can no longer trust. With only three days of food and questions about the water, Dara becomes the deciding vote and chooses to leave the station for Mount Bolivar. After reaching the lookout, the group learns more about the infected migration and eventually turns east toward the dry side of the range.
