Long before the modern eyeliner pencil, people in ancient Egypt framed their eyes with a mineral cosmetic. Kohl was ground from galena, and sometimes malachite, mixed with oil, fat, water, or gum, stored in small tubes, and drawn on with a slender stick. It enlarged the eye, cut the desert glare, and carried the protection of the Eye of Horus. Men, women, children, and kings wore it. Cleopatra inherited a line that was already ancient. At Alabaster Vanity, the artifact tells the story. Next, cheek color. #AncientEgypt #Kohl #Eyeliner #HistoryOfBeauty
