In this weekly lecture for September 19, 2026, we explore the Torah’s teaching on righteousness, obedience, and the reward that comes from faithfully walking in the ways of HaShem. The discussion draws from 2 Chronicles 15:7, which encourages the righteous not to lose courage because their work has a reward, together with Deuteronomy 6:24, where Israel is taught that obedience to HaShem’s commandments is ultimately for their good. Isaiah 48:17 likewise presents HaShem as the One who teaches His people what is beneficial and leads them in the way they should go. Through the lens of the Torah’s teachings, righteousness is not merely about receiving a reward. It is about developing a life ordered toward HaShem, trusting that faithful service has meaning even when its results are not immediately visible. This theme is echoed in rabbinic literature. Pirkei Avot 2:16 teaches that although we are not required to complete the work, we are nevertheless not free to abandon it. The emphasis is on faithful action despite uncertainty about when its ultimate reward will appear. Rashi, commenting on Deuteronomy 32:4, similarly explains that HaShem is faithful to reward the righteous, even when that reward is delayed. May this lesson encourage us to remain steadfast in righteousness, knowing that faithful work before HaShem is never without meaning.
