Go behind the scenes with Todd Merrill to see how sculptor and designer John Procario builds his Freeform pieces.
Wood bends, light dances, and sculpture becomes something to experience in motion in the first solo museum presentation of American designer John Procario at the Museum of Arts and Design. John Procario: Freeforms—Sculptural Explorations in Wood and Light features over 15 innovative works, including suspended light sculptures, sconces, and sculptural seating.
Using freeform bentwood lamination, Procario pushes ash wood to its physical limits, bending thin layers into looping curves and embedding flexible LED strips directly into the grain. The resulting fluid, illuminated structures occupy a unique space between sculpture and design, actively shifting and changing as viewers move around them in the gallery.
John Procario: Freeforms—Sculptural Explorations in Wood and Light is on view at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, October 27, 2026–April 4, 2027.
