Vietnam Is Building a Bridge That Disappears Under the Sea

Vietnam has started building one of Southeast Asia’s most unusual infrastructure projects — a 14-kilometer sea crossing between Can Gio and Vung Tau. For most of the route, traffic will travel across a massive bridge. But when the highway reaches a major shipping channel, something strange happens: the road descends onto an artificial island and disappears beneath the seabed. Instead of forcing huge cargo ships beneath an extremely high bridge, engineers plan to take the highway underneath them using an immersed-tube tunnel.
