Recorded in Bamako, January 2008 by Gerhard Kero & Ulli Sanou (beatfactory). Didadi is a very old festival music - rhythm and mask dance (mask Gomba and mask Sogo) of the Bambara society. Around 1970 it found its way from Beledugu (a historical region in central Mali) to the capital Bamako, where it was integrated into the festival music repertoire. In Buguni (a municipality in the cultural and historical region of Wassolon in southern Mali) the Didadi is called Bari or Djagowora. Bari is a large bass drum whose cowskin is played with the hands. 2 djembes accompany a singer.
