KILVINGTON: Newark and Sherwood Parish #57 of 84

NEWARK AND SHERWOOD PARISH #57: KILVINGTON Welcome to Kilvington, one of the smallest parishes in Nottinghamshire, and one of the smallest in the entire country – and I mean in terms of both population and land area The village – if you can call it that – consists of a handful of houses scattered along the main road South from Staunton. It’s separated from the equally small Alverton by about one mile Both Alverton and Kilvington lie on the northern fringes of the Vale of Belvior. Even together they are too small to have a parish council, so they both form a joint parish meeting instead. Because these villages are so small, I reckon you can consider this something of a “Part 1”, with Part 2 – Alverton - coming next week. In total, it only took me and hour and half to visit both villages Expect to see lots of countryside in these short episodes. Features are thin on the ground, but there is a church, a series of fishing lakes, and an old railway line to talk about There are only two other Kilvingtons in England, both of which are in North Yorkshire. During research for this village, I discovered the Kilvington Fillies’ Stakes Its an annual horse race held at Nottingham Racecouse, first held in the year 2000. I have no idea if the race is linked to this village though. Not a bad theory though even its not Let’s go and explore this tiny part of Nottinghamshire! **** #Kilvington, #Nottingham, #NewarkandSherwood, #Nottinghamshire, **** Belvoir Waters: https://www.pitchup.com/campsites/Eng... https://lakebookings.com/lake/belvoir...
