Have you ever wondered why, despite all your efforts to become calmer, happier, or more peaceful, you still experience frustration, anger, anxiety, or self-judgment? We often assume that these difficult experiences mean there's something wrong with us. And even when we discover meditation or spiritual practices, we may find ourselves trying to become a better, more peaceful version of ourselves. But what if nothing needs to change for us to recognize our true nature? In this Short Moments meetup, Jochen explores the fundamental misunderstanding that keeps us struggling with ourselves. Through personal stories, questions, and participants' experiences, we discover what it means to rest as open intelligence, including when we don't feel particularly peaceful, loving, or at ease. We also explore how recognizing our own inherent freedom naturally opens our hearts to the suffering of others and the wish to be of benefit to all. We explore: • Why we believe there's something wrong with us when difficult emotions arise • The "two buckets" misunderstanding: separating peaceful experiences from the ones we think we need to fix • What if anger, frustration, impatience, and self-judgment are also expressions of open intelligence? • Why resting doesn't mean trying to replace uncomfortable experiences with peaceful ones • The difference between allowing difficult emotions and secretly wanting them to disappear • A participant's moving experience of discovering love for emotions she had spent her life resisting • Why we can rest as our true nature and as everything we're experiencing • How recognizing our own freedom opens into compassion and the benefit of all • Finding greater trust in our own inherent clarity, wisdom, and capacity to respond to life The invitation is simple: rather than trying to become someone different, recognize the open intelligence that's already present, exactly as you are.
