Eravikulam is not just a park, it's Kerala's first National Park (1978) — and now ranked India's No.1 among 438 protected areas. Its 4 real specialities: 1. Nilgiri Tahr - the star World's largest population of this endangered mountain goat lives here. Around 841 now, including 144 newborns. You can see them very close in Rajamalai area, they are not shy at all. 2. Neelakurinji Flower The whole hill turns blue once every 12 years. Last bloom was 2018, next is 2030. There are 20+ varieties of Kurinji inside the park. 314e 3. Anamudi Peak The highest peak in South India - 2,695 meters - is inside the park. Called Everest of South India. Trekking to the top is restricted, but view from base is amazing. 314e 4. Shola-Grassland ecosystem 97 sq km of rolling grasslands, Shola forests, orchids, medicinal plants (200+ species in new garden), waterfalls like Lakkom. Also lion-tailed macaque, leopard, sambar, and 120+ birds like Nilgiri pipit. 1bbd Timings: 8 AM to 4 PM, closed Feb-March for Tahr breeding. They added new things - medicinal garden, rainbow bridge, photo points.
