Since Westmont is in DuPage County and their Federal Signal EOWS 612 might be getting replaced soon, Dominic & I decided to get up early to drive down there to film the weekly growl. This is, in fact, my second electronic siren I heard & saw growl hence the ACA Alertronic AL-6000R in Rolling Meadows. At first, I wasn't sure if it was going to do anything since most sirens I've filmed growl between 8:10-8:11 AM, but this one seemed to do it around 8:11.
Instead of producing a quiet wind-up & a sudden blast like the Alertronic did, the drivers crackled during the rotation process & produced two short, duel-toned blasts. It's very rare to see any EOWS perform a growl test, and I'm glad I finally was able to witness it in person. For any of you siren enthusiasts who enjoy filming growl tests, I highly recommend coming to Westmont to film their 612, especially since its dying and might be getting replaced soon.
Fulton conducts a growl test for sirens in Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, Elk Grove Village, & DuPage County every Monday between 8:10-8:20 AM. Also, I do apologize if the footage looks crooked. The pole the EOWS 612 is on is leaning, and the people who install EOWS's on poles tend to do a poor job at placing it straight in the ground.
