La Rinconada, Peru sits above 5,000 m, where miners work a month unpaid for one or two days of gold. Why do they stay?
High in the Andes, the town widely considered the highest permanent settlement on Earth runs on a single bet: about a month of work for a day or two of luck. This 4K gold mining documentary follows the miners, the women outside the tunnels and the gold itself, from a glacier called the Sleeping Beauty to refineries on the other side of the world. It is a look at life in Peru's high Andes: how people live in La Rinconada, and why so many keep coming back.
