Every day, millions of flowers are offered at temples across India. Once the prayers are over, many of these flowers are discarded, often ending up in rivers and landfills. Phool set out to change what happens next. What began with collecting temple flowers has grown into a circular enterprise that transforms floral waste into charcoal-free incense and other sustainable products. The company’s innovation now extends beyond incense. Phool is also developing bioproducts from floral waste, including Fleather, a leather-like biomaterial made from flowers. Its approach also extends to design, with vibrant, India-inspired packaging made using compostable materials and vegetable-dye inks. Today, Phool has diverted more than 22,000 metric tonne of floral waste from rivers, sells 27 packs every minute, and operates across six cities with more than 600 people. More than 400 women, many from marginalised communities, are at the heart of Phool’s operations, finding opportunities for skills, livelihoods and greater financial independence. #Sustainability #ImpactInnovation
