If you thought you’d seen everything British motorsport has to offer, think again.
Full Metal Mayhem takes us away from the polished world of Formula One and into a very different kind of racing — where the objective is not simply to cross the finish line, but to survive spectacularly.
Here, caravans become racing machines, London taxis are pressed into service, and vans are sent into battle in a glorious celebration of crumpled metal and controlled chaos.
And then there are the Siamese Racers — two cars joined together, with one driver sitting on top to steer while another controls the pedals below. It sounds impossible. It looks even more so. But somehow, it works.
For anyone who has ever been stuck behind a caravan on the A303, the caravan racing is particularly satisfying. These once-peaceful holiday homes are smashed, flattened and launched into the air, with spectacular crashes captured in slow motion and onboard cameras putting you right in the middle of the action.
Then come the vans.
The familiar white van is transformed from a symbol of Britain's roads into a weapon of motorsport, with drivers battling it out in a demolition derby where precision driving is arguably less important than simply keeping the wheels pointing vaguely in the right direction.
And if that's not enough, there's the Reliant Robin — a three-wheeled icon with a reputation for being spectacularly unstable. It takes to the track, tips over at astonishingly low speeds, and somehow manages to get back up and do it all again.
The programme then turns the volume up even further with National Bangers, where destruction is the name of the game, followed by the wonderfully bizarre ramp rollover contest.
The result is 55 minutes of high-octane British motorsport at its most outrageous.
No million-pound pit garages. No aerodynamic analysis. No carefully rehearsed team radio.
Just caravans, taxis, vans, three-wheelers, ramps — and a lot of people apparently willing to risk their cars for our entertainment.
Full Metal Mayhem is a celebration of the wonderfully eccentric side of British motoring: ingenious, chaotic, occasionally ridiculous, and spectacularly entertaining.
Because in this corner of motorsport, if it has wheels, someone will race it.
And sooner or later, someone will crash it.
