In this episode, I travel through Kruger National Park from Satara to Olifants Camp on a dark, overcast, and rainy winter’s day in South Africa. Despite the challenging weather, the drive delivers unforgettable wildlife moments and a beautiful atmosphere. I leave Satara early and first return to the S100, hoping to find Casper the white lion and his pride. Although I only spot a single lion, the sighting is still special. Along the way, I encounter giraffes with oxpeckers, wildebeest sheltering from the rain, and several birds of prey. One of the highlights of the day is an incredible sighting of three bateleur eagles, two adults and a juvenile, perched together and interacting in a tree. Later, my luck continues when I come across a coalition of three male lions resting near a waterhole. Not all memorable moments are big predators. I spend a surprising amount of time photographing a tortoise drinking from a rain puddle on the road, and I enjoy watching wildebeest huddled beneath small trees in the rain. After exploring several gravel roads and crossing the Olifants River, I check in at Olifants Camp and settle into a bungalow overlooking the river. As evening falls, bats emerge around camp, marking the end of a rewarding day.
