Hearing with light – Optical cochlear implant - Patrick Ruther

Electrode-based cochlear implants can help people suffering from hearing loss to regain the ability to understand language. Dr. Patrick Ruther, a physicist at the University of Freiburg, and his team at the Department of Microsystems Engineering are working on a technique that will greatly improve auditory perception and even make it possible to hear music.
