In this video, we take you on an honest night walking tour through the beautiful and vibrant streets of Xalapa, Veracruz. We start our stroll just a block from home, heading through narrow alleys and volcanic rock streets to see what the capital city of Veracruz really looks like after the sun goes down.
We explore the first "Magical Neighborhood" (Barrio Mágico) of Veracruz—Xalitic. It’s Saturday night and the area is "party central" with live music, local vendors, and dancers (including some very interesting characters in panda and koala suits!). We also visit the historic outdoor laundry basins where generations of women once gathered, and climb the massive stairs to see the 144-year-old "El Árbol."
Many people ask, "Is Xalapa safe at night?" We share our personal experience walking through downtown and Xalitic, passing local police and seeing families, grandparents, and kids all out enjoying the fresh air. To wrap up the night, we head downtown for some mini Cokes and fresh stuffed churros (caramel and blackberry cream cheese!).
