That is what their website said..... https://www.sovereignhill.com.au From our perspective, this was our 5th visit and it won’t be our last. We absolutely loved our visit to Sovereign Hill! From the moment you walk through the gates, you feel like you have stepped back in time. It is not just a place where you look at old buildings and read information boards — you are completely surrounded by the sights, sounds and stories of the gold rush. Walking down the streets, seeing the horses and carriages, popping into the shops and watching people demonstrate the trades and skills of the past was incredible. Everywhere you turn there is something happening, and I found myself wanting to look inside every building because there was always another story waiting to be discovered. You can pan for gold, explore the mines, watch traditional crafts being demonstrated, visit the bakery and confectionery, learn about the Chinese community and discover what life was like for the miners, women, children and families who lived on the goldfields. What I really loved was that Sovereign Hill makes history fun. You don't have to be passionate about history, like we are, to enjoy it. I also loved that it isn't just about the gold. It is about the people who came from all over the world chasing a dream, the communities they created, the struggles they faced and the lives they built. It really brings the social history of the gold rush to life. If you are visiting Ballarat, I honestly think Sovereign Hill is must-see. Whether you are travelling with family, friends or exploring on your own, there is something for everyone. I walked away feeling like I had experienced history rather than simply visited a museum — and I would happily go back again and again and again. We also stayed the night at the hotel and the bed was so big and comfy and the room so lovely and the staff, much like all the staff at the museum were second to none!
