Isle of Man Steam Railway 'Manx Heritage Transport Festival' 2026. All footage filmed between Friday 24th - Friday 31st July 2026. The 'Manx Heritage Transport Festival' returned to the Isle of Man from 28th July to 2nd August, once again bringing together the island’s rich and varied transport heritage in a six-day celebration. The event showcased the full spectrum of historic transport, from electric and horse-drawn trams to vintage buses and the island’s much-loved steam railway network. A central theme for this year’s festival was the 150th anniversary of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, one of the oldest surviving horse-drawn tramways in the world. Alongside this, the festival also marked 50 years since the nationalisation of the island’s bus services. On the steam railway, 2026 marked the 140th anniversary of the Foxdale line, a slightly less prominent but still noteworthy milestone. Special activities were put on throughout the week, varying from tram parallel running, steam double headers, shed tours, dining trains, photographic events, a horse tram promenade, rare tram and trailer combinations, steam headboards and so much more. Seeing as my main interest is steam locomotives, this video focuses on the Isle of Man Steam Railway and not the other modes of transport on the island. My visit started on Friday 24th July, four days before the event began with Nos. 4 "Loch", 11 "Maitland" & 13 "Kissack" in charge of the standard services over the next few days, as well as an appearance from No. 15 "Caledonia" on the Sunday lunch train. Tuesday 28th July marked the first day of the transport festival, Timetable R was in force but with the added attraction of a double headed 10 coach train, including the saloon coaches which are usually reserved for dining train operations. Wednesday was a day to celebrate key members of the IOMSRSA (Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters Association) as certain services were adorned with named headboards of those individuals. A special evening service with No. 15 "Caledonia" was also put on from Douglas to Port Erin for the IOMSRSA's AGM on the Wednesday too. Throughout the week recently restored Manx Northern Hurst Nelson coach No. 16 was in service alongside the Foxdale coach F.39 to celebrate the Foxdale line's 140th anniversary. Further events continued after my visit concluded such as Douglas workshop tours and a double header/banked trains day.
